Abstract

“Decisions determine destiny”—this is especially relevant for healthcare. All health outcomes — from treating common illnesses to surviving life-threaten- ing diseases — are the result of a chain of decisions. Whether individuals, families, and communities develop and maintain healthy, successful trajectories involves timely, informed, and deliberate decisions on the part of individuals, families, and communities. Whether it’s choosing when to go to a hospital, seek out professional help or follow medical advice, the ramifications of health-related decisions can be lifesaving — or life-threatening.
